Dr Karan Allan
Dr Karen Allan graduated from the University of Ulster in 1995 with a degree in Nutrition and Dietetics.She developed an interest in research and subsequently went on to obtain her PhD from the University of Surrey in 1999.
Her specialist areas of interest are in weight management and diabetes. She worked as a member of the specialist weight management team in Aintree Hospital Liverpool, before going on to take up a post as a lecturer in Nutrition at the Manchester Metropolitan University in 2001.
She is part of the Dietitian’s Working in Obesity Management UK (DOM UK) committee, representing dietitians across the UK with an interest in weight management. She has organised several training courses for both dietitians’ and other health professionals and is the author of the NOF weight management educational CD-ROM which was launched in October 2004. She has been an invited speaker on the dietary management of obesity at several National conferences.
Karen is keen to see progress and development in the area of bariatric surgery and is especially interested in the aspect of dietary management. She is currently living and working as a Dietitian in the North of Scotland where she enjoys being able to get away from it all.
